Intrauterine Insemination
Intrauterine insemination (IUI), commonly known as vaccination, is an assisted reproductive method used to increase couples’ chances of natural pregnancy. It is especially preferred in cases of unexplained infertility, mild male factor infertility, cervical problems, and ovulation irregularities.
The insemination treatment is planned to coincide with the woman’s ovulation period. First, ovulation induction treatment can be applied to regulate ovulation. The development of the eggs is monitored with ultrasound and when they reach the appropriate size, the timing of ovulation is determined with a trigger needle. On the same day, the sperm sample taken from the man is subjected to special processes in a laboratory environment to select the highest quality and most mobile sperm. The prepared sperm sample is injected directly into the uterus with the help of a thin catheter. This method increases the chance of fertilization by facilitating the sperm’s access to the egg.
The procedure is simple and painless and is completed in a short time. In the process following the insemination, whether or not pregnancy has occurred is checked with a blood test performed approximately 10-14 days later. In this way, the insemination method offers an effective and practical treatment option that increases the chance of pregnancy in the appropriate patient group.
