Gynecologic Cancers

Gynecologic cancers are types of cancer that originate in the organs of the female reproductive system and have a high chance of cure when detected early. Uterine (endometrial) cancer, cervical (cervix) cancer, ovarian (ovarian) cancer, vaginal and vulvar cancer are among the most common gynecologic cancers.

Symptoms of Gynecological Cancers

  • Menstrual irregularities and abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Pelvic pain and pressure sensation
  • Bleeding or pain after intercourse
  • Abdominal distension, loss of appetite or weight loss
  • Changes in urinary and bowel habits

Risk Factors

  • HPV infection (the biggest risk factor for cervical cancer)
  • Family history of gynecologic cancer
  • Advanced age, smoking, obesity and hormonal imbalances
  • Long-term use of birth control pills (may increase the risk of some types of cancer, but not others)

Diagnosis and Treatment

Methods such as Pap smear, HPV test, mammography, ultrasound and biopsy are used for early diagnosis. Surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and targeted therapies are applied according to the type and stage of the cancer.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Ovayolu ensures that his patients reach the best treatment options with early diagnosis, individual treatment plans and multidisciplinary approaches. Regular gynecological controls and early diagnosis are of great importance in preventing gynecological cancers.
