Gaziantep Islamic Science and Technology University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Midwifery Department organized an event for “5 MAY WORLD MIDWIFERS DAY”. The event attracted great interest from students.
The event started with the uniform wearing ceremony of the first year students of the Midwifery Department after the opening speeches. It continued with the musical recital of the GİBTÜ Music Club.
In addition, a panel was held based on the theme of “Midwives: A Vital Climate Solution” determined by ICM for 2024. The event ended with a raffle and gifts given to students for Midwives Day.
GIBTU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Feridun Bilgin, in his opening speech of the panel, emphasized the importance of midwives and talked about the historical past of midwifery. He congratulated the students who were wearing uniforms.
Speaking at the opening of the panel, GIBTU Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Mehmet Tarakçıoğlu drew attention to the importance of climate change and stated that this panel falls within the scope of sustainable development goals. He stated that the Faculty of Health Sciences attaches great importance to its activities and that such activities are beneficial for students.
Speaking at the opening of the panel, GİBTÜ Health Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. İbrahim Halil Türkbeyler talked about the importance of midwives and midwifery. He congratulated the students and stated that Midwives Day was a beautiful memory for the students. He congratulated all the students who wore uniforms.
Gibtu Health Sciences Faculty Midwifery Department Head Dr. Lecturer Kamile Akça, who made the opening speech, stated that midwives are the greatest assurance for mothers with the professionalism, knowledge and skills they display during pregnancy, birth and postpartum, and that as midwives of the future, students will take over this valuable profession and play a key role in ensuring that society has a healthy future. She stated that the first-year midwifery department students, who wore uniforms for the first time this year, shared their excitement for wearing uniforms. She congratulated the students and midwifery department instructors on Midwifes Day.
In the panel held, Gaziantep Islamic University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Midwifery Dr. Zehra Çerçer, Gaziantep Islamic University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Midwifery Dr. Zeynep Bal, Gaziantep Islamic University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Midwifery Dr. Sema İçel, Gaziantep Liv Hospital Gynecology and In Vitro Fertilization Specialist and also the President of Gaziantep Midwives Association Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Ovayolu made presentations. The panel ended with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the panelist lecturers.
