Op.Dr. Ali OVAYOLU, one of the doctors of Gaziantep Cengiz Gökçek Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital, has performed many gynecology surgeries with the laparoscopic single port method.

Gaziantep Cengiz Gökçek Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital has started performing gynecology surgeries by entering only from the navel for about a month now. Previously, surgeries such as hysterectomy, myoma operations, ligation of tubes (cords), and evaluation of tubes of infertile patients were performed with multiport (3-4 holes) laparoscopy technique in the obstetrics hospital.

Gaziantep Cengiz Gökçek Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital Doctors Op. Dr. Ali OVAYOLU has performed numerous gynecology surgeries with the laparoscopic single port method. Op. Dr. Ali OVAYOLU provided information about this new operation technique and applications: “In the single port technique, surgery is performed by entering the abdomen with a 2-3 cm incision made only from the navel. When the navel is closed after the operation, it is pulled inwards in the form of a pit and heals without leaving any scars. With this technique, the healing of the surgical wound and related problems of patients with hypertension, diabetes and obesity problems, which are frequently encountered in our region, are reduced to almost nothing. The single port technique provides a great advantage to women in terms of both health and aesthetics. In the past, patients who had surgery would often say the following sentence; ‘I am having surgery, I cannot lift heavy things, my stitches will burst. In this single port surgery, the location and smallness of the incision almost eliminates this risk.” The largest uterus we have ever removed using the single-port technique in our hospital was approximately 15 cm (14 weeks in size).

The last patient, A.F.B., aged 30, applied with a cyst that had developed from her 22 cm ovary. The patient underwent a single port laparoscopy surgery. During the operation, approximately 4 liters of fluid were drained from the cyst. The single patient looked like she was 9 months pregnant before the operation. After the operation, she became a slender young girl. Moreover, if she did not state that she had surgery, no one looking at her abdomen would even guess it. Patient A.F.B. said, “I was very scared, I thought I would die with such a large cyst. I even went to the village and asked my mother for forgiveness. I thought my abdomen would be cut from end to end. When this method was suggested, I accepted it. I both got better and got rid of the stab wound, I am very happy. No one, including me, could believe such a surgery.” Op.Dr. Ali OVAYOLU said, “The recovery period is shorter in the laparoscopic single-port method. The patient can be discharged the day after the operation. The possible risk is lower. We are now applying this method for gynecology operations.” Gaziantep Cengiz Gökçek Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital Chief Physician Op.Dr. M. Fethi PINAR said, “It is a very good development for Gaziantep that single-port gynecology operations, which are applied in a limited number of centers in our country, have started to be performed in our hospital. These operations require the latest technology equipment. Our hospital has experienced surgeons who have received very good training in this field and know their own limits. We have formed a team with a compatible anesthesia team, devoted nurses and educated personnel for single-port laparoscopic operations. We are proud to provide the best service to Gaziantep in light of the latest developments.”
